I am sad to report that there is no such thing as a stomach flu. In fact, other than the lungs sort of being above the stomach, the stomach and the flu virus have nothing to do with each other. I hear you naysayers screaming, “There is so a stomach flu!”, and to you I say shut the hell up. No. There. Isn’t.
There are stomach viruses. Yes, the flu (an upper respiratory tract infection) is also caused by a virus. This does not mean that they are the same thing. The common cold is also caused by a handful of viruses but we don’t mistake that for a stomach virus now do we? I’ve never heard anyone say, “I’ve got a stomach cold.”
Now, I am begging everyone. Seriously, I’m BEGGING, quit using the phrase “stomach flu”. You can have the crud, involuntary bulemia, a bug, whatever! Just quit calling it a damned flu because that’s not what you have!
